As of May 1, 2025, Türkiye has officially entered the Emission Control Area (ECA) designated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Petrol Ofisi Group, the leading marine fuel supplier in the sector, successfully completed its first ULSFO production following the delivery of ECA-compliant fuel with 0.10% sulfur content in April.
With this significant production at its Derince terminal in Kocaeli, Petrol Ofisi has added ULSFO production and storage flexibility to its existing diesel, DMA, and VLSFO capacities. Surpassing 10,000 tons of ULSFO sales in the first month, the company marked another major success by meeting over 20% of the transit heavy fuel oil market demand.
Commenting on the development, Petrol Ofisi Group Senior Supply Operations Manager Sibel Elekdağ Yeşiltepe stated: “Türkiye’s inclusion in the Mediterranean Emission Control Area has significantly increased the demand for low-sulfur fuels. We quickly adapted to this change, prioritized operational safety, and launched our product testing processes. Thanks to the meticulous efforts of our Terminal Operations and Supply teams, we successfully completed our first ULSFO production at our Derince facility in Kocaeli. By combining our production technology with our supply strength, we are taking pioneering steps toward a more sustainable future in our sector—offering uninterrupted and fast ULSFO supply to both domestic and transit vessels. We take great pride in contributing to the sustainable fuel ecosystem.”
